THERE is one point made by Neil Godwin, of Sidemoor, (Advertiser/-Messenger April 18) on which we obviously both agree. The situation is serious. Farms throughout the country are now predictably faced with a crisis over animal welfare.
In excess of 1.5 million healthy animals in infected areas are now awaiting slaughter. The conditions in which these animals are being kept are appalling, fields are being grazed bare and in some cases fodder is running low.
Is it not now time the dithering U-turners in Westminster made the decision on whether or not to vaccinate?
One must not, however, forget the added dilemma caused by the recent call by vets dealing with the outbreak in the West Country for the Government to cease slaughter of healthy animals in infected areas.
