Gloucester City (1) 2

Bromsgrove Rovers (1) 2

Dr Martens League Western Division

Tuesday May 1

BROMSGROVE were unlucky not to come away with all three points in a spirited display at Meadow Park.

But after Cinderford Town pulled off a 2-0 win at Cirencester Town last night, Rovers' point may not be enough -- they now have to win their remaining two matches to stand any chance of staying up.

Gloucester opened the scoring after 20 minutes when 'keeper Ally Hines belted the ball downfield. Karl Bayliss flicked the ball on and Jimmy Cox ran through, rounded Neil Olden and put the ball into an empty net.

Rovers then took the game to Gloucester and equalised in the 29th minute. Gary Hackett bent over a free kick which Matt Parnell cleared from under his own crossbar. Hackett swung the corner into the near post and City player/manager Tommmy Callinan headed into his own net.

Rovers dominated the rest of the game but failed to get the reward they deserved through poor finishing and the outstanding Hines.

On 70 minutes the Greens' pressure finally paid off when David Bridgewater put over a corner which was met by Costas Xiourouppa's bullet header past Hines.

But Gloucester equalised when Cox ran through and slid the ball under the advancing Olden.

Rovers should have won the game in the 82nd minute when Lee Hughes, who only had the keeper to beat, somehow shot wide.

Rovers: Olden, Watson (sub McFarlane 89 mins), Hughes, Townsend, Frost, Yates, Bridgewater, Lloyd, Xiourouppa, Banner, Hackett.

Rovers man of the match: Luke Yates. Attendance: 211
