THE director of Bromsgrove's top tourist attraction has been appointed to sit on a new influential committee which will allocate lottery cash to heritage projects in the West Midlands.
Dr Simon Penn, from Avoncroft Museum, in Stoke Heath, will join five others on a committee set up by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The six members, drawn from across the region, will contribute a wealth of expertise to the grant allocation process.
The committee will also be responsible for advising the fund's board of trustees on local priorities.
Dr Penn said: "The appointment of a committee for the West Midlands to consider grant applications of up to £1m demonstrates the fund's commitment to a greater level of regional responsibility.
"I look forward to using my knowledge of heritage issues to contribute to the decision making process."
Dr Penn is also an advisor for adult education to the University of Birmingham, a board member of the West Midlands Regional Museums Council and a council member of the Association of Independent Museums.
He also undertakes a variety of lecturing, broadcasting and consultancy work on all aspects of architectural and local history.
The committee will meet four times a year, the first is planned for June.
