ATHLETICS: Robin Sedman-Smith sprang a surprise on Sunday by winning an event he had not intended to compete in.
When the Kidderminster Club runner arrived at Sutton Park, Birmingham, hoping to take part in the Lung Run 10k, the race had already started.
Undaunted, he entered the 5k event and won it in 15 minutes 10 seconds.
Ron Lynes was the first club member to finish the Stratford Half Marathon on Sunday in a time of one hour 34 minutes.
Running in their first half-marathons were Jenny Southall, second finisher for the club, in 2-03 and Jane Vale 2-17.
The club was well represented in this year's London Marathon.
Steve Smith was the first club runner to complete the course finishing 308th in 2-46-53.
He was followed by Gary Bonner in 3-08-07, Ruth Finney 3-39-39 (her first marathon), Mike Clackson 3-52-0 and Mike Hudson 4-10-34.
The club is now running from Stourport Sports Club, The Kingsway, Stourport, opposite the High School, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm.
