SAILING: Trimpley Sailing Club's annual J B Smith Trophy for GP14 dinghies was poorly attended with only four boats on the water.
However, it proved to be one of the most exciting races seen with Carl Jeffs and crew Hannah Tissiman beating Phil Quarry and crew Sarah Allen by just three seconds after Quarry had led from the start.
Mark Tissiman and daughter Sophie finished third, 13 minutes behind the leaders.
Simon and Tom Fletcher retired after seven laps, having capsized in gusty winds.
The winds calmed down on Sunday and Roger Stretton won the midday handicap.
Alan and John Hope took the Noon March Hare handicap from Simon Fletcher and crew Terry Bolton.
The first race in GP14 Spring Series was won by John Hingley and Janet Cooksey from Jeff Halford and Dawn Bradley.
In the second race of the series, Halford and Bradley beat the Fletchers.
Eddie Hillman took the first Laser class race from John Cookson but the result was reversed in the second race.
In April's Monthly Shield, the senior GP14 was awarded to Eric Grimwood with his wife Doreen taking the crewing award.
H Tissiman took the junior crewing award, the Laser class Monthly Shield went to John Cookson and Amy Malpass won the Optimist class award.
