CHESS: Kidderminster Knights' 3.5-0.5 victory at St James, Longbridge, in round two of the Worcester and District League Knock-out Cup was surrounded by controversy.
Captain John Wrench selected Paul Thomas on board four but he had already played for the Kidderminster Rooks against Malvern and was cup tied.
Wrench had not realised that a different rule applied to the cup from that of the league and immediately withdrew his team.
Following their reinstatement, St James will now play the Rooks in one of the semi-finals.
The Kidderminster individual results are expected to count for grading purposes.
Kidderminster names first: J Friar 1, D Bott 0; M Bissell 0.5, R Collett 0.5; J Wrench 1, S Johnson 0; P Thomas 1, B Green 0.
