A KIDDERMINSTER mother who badly cut a nightclub doorman's thumb in a glass attack has been jailed for 21 months.

Drunken Rachel Pooler lunged at Peter Whittingham when he was ejecting her for bullying another customer.

Pooler, 21, of Grasmere Close, was convicted last month by a jury at Worcester Crown Court of unlawful wounding.

She was cleared of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Michael Mott said it was "a very nasty offence". The victim, who had a permanent scar, was in authority and trying to keep the peace.

The prosecution described at the trial how Pooler was drunk at Time nightclub in Kidderminster last August and had been bullying a woman on the dance floor.

Security staff decided she must be ejected and Mr Whittingham was escorting her outside.

He suffered a 5cm cut and a severed tendon in his right thumb.

Pooler claimed she never had a glass and had only drunk from bottles.

She said she was angry with another woman but denied she was the target for the attack and that the victim had got in the way.

Adam Western, defending, said the mother-of-one had a three-year-old daughter who had never been parted from her mother. She would have to be looked after by the defendant's partner.

Mr Western added: "It was a one-off incident out of character against a background of alcohol. She feels sympathy towards Mr Whittingham."
