I WAS horrified to see the article about the closing of Coopers Lane public lavatory (Shuttle, April 19).

Some 12 years ago, my doctor put me on drugs plus diuretics, and this gave me a different outlook on life.

By lunchtime the drugs had worn off, and the diuretics had settled down to the level where I felt I could go out with a small amount of confidence to face the world.

You see, the problem with diuretics is that they drain your tissues of fluids and when you feel the need for a pee you have to go there and then or you wet yourself, which is embarrassing and uncomfortable.

Years ago we had toilets at Vale Road, behind the Swan Hotel and at Coopers Lane - well placed with a low-time penalty.

The Swan Hotel toilets were old and decrepit, but could look beautiful in an hour of need.

Now the council wants to close Coopers Lane, leaving shoppers and tourists with nowhere to go, and toilets do not feature in the "major redevelopment opportunity".

This will downgrade Stourport for shopping and tourism.

Stourport could become known as the "three ps town" - paralysed traffic, no parking and no pee for visitors.

So come on all you elderly men and women, and parents with young children, I have dared to speak out - now you do it.
