I would have to agree with county councillor Barbara Watton's comment that residents should know the facts about our councils and not be misinformed by letter writers, especially at election time (Postbag, April 6).
A perfect example of this misinformation was evident in Coun Alec Wall's letter in the same Postbag that perpetuated the misinformation regarding the control of Malvern Town Council. It is not controlled by the Liberal Democrats but is represented by various groups including Conservative, Liberal Democrat, Green and Independents, none of whom have control.
He also went on to imply that the problems inherited from the previous administration of Malvern Hills District Council were nothing to do with the Conservative/Independent Group, despite the fact that every Conservative district councillor at that time voted for last year's inherited budget which was itself prepared by the Conservative portfolio holder for finance.
The Liberal Democrats do, however, fully support the principal that the budget must be balanced and that wherever possible the increase in Council Tax should not be any more than the rate of inflation. This, of course, is not helped by the poor deal given to our district by the Government. On this point I can wholly agree with Coun Wall.
Coun Rob Richards (Liberal Democrat Finance Spokesman), Berry Close, Powick.
