A LARGE crowd watched Silhillians clinch the Midlands Four West (South) championship at Cleobury Mortimer with a 36-9 win.

The solid support and importance of the game appeared to unnerve the usually resilient Cleobury who fell behind quickly.

As early as the sixth minute, Silhillians struck twice through their speedy left-winger to take a 12-0 lead.

Their right-winger got in on the act after 15 minutes with a twisting run and converted try.

The visitors relaxed a touch and Cleobury began a series of forward drives to keep the ball away from the backs and force mistakes.

Colin Smith was able to cash-in with three penalties before the interval to reduce the arrears to 9-19 and a closer game was in prospect.

Cleobury were confident of a second-half comeback with the aid of the slope but Silhillians' defence held firm.

On virtually their first foray into Cleobury territory midway through the period, they struck with a penalty and the left-winger added a superb individual try as the home side tired.

With Cleobury searching for a consolation, their opponents ran in another converted try to complete the job.

Cleobury entertain Berkswell and Balsall on Saturday, May 12, and then visit Stoke Old Boys a week later.
