YOUNGSTERS at Kidderminster's Blakebrook School are riding high thanks to the efforts of a kind-hearted bike shop employee who repaired more than 20 bicycles and scooters - for free. Rich Skidmore tries out one of the bikes he repaired for Blakebrook School with, from left, Lois Farley, Colin Roberts and Tracey Mullard, a former teacher at the school.

Rich Skidmore, who works in Halfords' town centre store, learnt of the sad state of the school fleet from one of the former teachers at the school for children with learning difficulties.

He offered his services in his own time and, several weeks later, with the support of his employer, around 24 bikes and scooters, many of them with flat tyres, dud gears or dodgy brakes, are back on the road.

Headteacher Mick Russell said: "We're delighted, particularly with the neighbourly community aspect. A lot of the bikes and scooters were in a poor state.

"The children are very pleased - it means they can now use them in their play and leisure time."
