RESIDENTS living near Kidderminster Harriers football ground are being asked for their views on plans to upgrade and light a car park.

Wyre Forest District Council wants to attract more shoppers to the site in Stadium Close by improving security and making it more user-friendly.

Under the proposals, the site would be re-laid and lighting introduced which would be activated by a light sensitive cell and switched off by a time switch.

The district council says the lighting is designed to cause "minimum overspill" and would be automatically switched off after working hours at around 9.30pm.

The scheme will cost around £35,000 and it is hoped that work could get under way in a few months following consultation. The car park would re-open later this summer.

Keith Burgess, commercial services manager with the district council, said the car park was currently "fairly poorly used" but it was hoped the work would improve use.

He said the 135-place site would provide high quality, low-cost long-stay parking with a £1 all day charge.
