COOKLEY residents will be taking to the skies on May Day with a mass flight of home-made kites. Cookley School pupils get ready for the May Day kite parade, from left, Roni Lacey, Rebecca Elvins, Daniel Garnish and Jonathon Harrison.
Monday's Kites over Cookley event, which includes a kite workshop and parade, has involved villagers of all ages in the construction of kites and was awarded a millennial grant of £5,000.
The parade will be held at 2pm and kites will be flown on Cookley playing fields at 4.30pm. There will also be a kite workshop on the field from 2-5pm.
Other activities will include a tug of war, maypole dancing, stalls, a car boot sale and rides in an air balloon.
