A 'COOL' idea to save lives in Wyre Forest has been officially launched this week.
The Green Code project - exclusively revealed by the Shuttle/Times and News in March - allows emergency services answering blue light calls the quickest route to vital medical information in people's homes.
The novel plan, spearheaded by West Mercia Police, Shropshire Ambulance Service and West Mercia Neighbourhood Watch, relies on people with medical conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy or drug allergies storing information in the fridge.
Film canisters are used to store details safely and chemist store Boots has agreed to provide these free of charge.
Green cross stickers are also provided as part of the scheme and are placed prominently on the inside of the front door to lead emergency services to the fridge.
PC Roy Mills, Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator for West Mercia, said: "This scheme is invaluable because it not only helps to reduce the distress caused to people who need to know if their loved one requires help, but can also save hours of work for officers."
Details about the scheme are available from police station front counters.
