BRIDGE CLUB: On St George's Day, the AGM was held in the village hall. The eagerness of members to begin playing meant that the chairman Chris Mallinson dealt with the agenda in a swift, efficient manner. Approval of minutes of the 2000 AGM, reports and election of officers and committee members were soon completed. The committee now consists of chairman, Chris Mallinson, treasurer Roy Bruckshaw, secretary Jean Hill. Eve Randsley, Wilf Atkinson, Michael Hill, Robert Singleton retired and was thanked for his service. Eve Randsley was thanked for her work as secretary for many years, and she was presented with gift for her loyal service. There followed presentation of cups/shields to the past year's winners.
Bob Carman won the Kay Bore tournament; Gill and David Young the Flitch cup; ladies pairs - Gina Critchley and Grace Rogers; men's pairs - Bob Carman and Robert Strong; handicap cup - Audrey Evans; mixed pairs - Sally Martin and Chris Mallinson. The Whitbread cup was won this year by Eckington Bridge Club beating Tewkesbury Bridge Club very effectively. The chairman welcomed four new members and play resumed at ten tables.
