ANNUAL PARISH MEETING:
Archaeological Dig: The chairman welcomed Malcolm Atkin, from Worcestershire Archaeological Services, who gave an interesting talk and slide show relating to the bypass site which will soon be subject to excavation prior to construction work on the bypass getting under way.
Chairman's Report: In his annual report the chairman highlighted the good points from the past year. These included the approval for the Northern bypass, the fitting in of the David Paynes Homes site, the condition of the Village Green and Smith's Meadow, the reactivation of the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, and steps being taken to look after the ancient Village Cross. Matters which were not so good and gave cause for concern included the lack of a Western bypass, poor communication from the district council, the terrible condition of many of the local roads, the ongoing dog fouling problem, litter, the continued presence of a distribution company within the village and speeding traffic. The most serious issues were the landfill (or should it be landrise?) site which marches ever upwards, the disposal of carcasses at Throckmorton Airfield, and a possible threat of the construction of an incinerator in the area. The chairman thanked the parish, county and district councillors, and the clerk, for all their contributions and hard work during the period and the residents for their support.
Councillors' Report: Each of the councillors present gave a brief report of their involvement in parish activities during the past year.
Reports from village organisations: Reports were tabled by representatives of the village hall, the WI, Fladbury School, the Table Tennis Club, and the Cricket Club. The meeting was pleased to note that all these organisations had enjoyed an active year.
Bypass: The chairman referred to the exhibition to be held in the village hall on April 30.
Throckmorton Airfield: County coun, Mrs Tucker, reported that an open evening was due to be held at Hill and Moor Village Hall to give residents the chance to talk directly to members of the Army, MAFF, the Environmental Agency, Public Health and Wychavon Health staff. During the meeting it was decided that an action committee be formed and Ms Ann Ward (Throckmorton) agreed to co-ordinate arrangements.
Incineration: Concern was expressed about the county council's decision not to build an incineration unit at Kidderminster and it was agreed to send a letter to the county council to express the parish council views on the siting of such plant, which must not be at the Hill and Moor landfill site.
Next meeting: Ordinary meeting will be held on June 14 at 7.30pm.
