THERE is hope of re-establishing a women's cricket team in Evesham.
Evesham Ladies played a full list of fixtures and was successful as the leading club in the area for around ten years until it folded in response to the demands of playing in the National League.
One of those mainly responsible for setting up the club in the 80s was Dr Bob Shaw, now chairman of The Worc-estershire Cricket Centre at Prince Henry's School and a committee member at Evesham CC.
"I have found a lot of regret among former players who turned out for Evesham Ladies, and a belief that we need to get back to where the club was ten years ago, with the team playing friendly fixtures mainly locally," he declared.
A "taster session" for newcomers to the game, and indoor coaching for more experienced female players will be held at the Centre from 11am on Sunday.
There will be a meeting afterwards to discuss the future of cricket for women and girls over 17 in the area.
"The key to re-establishing a the team is to have sufficient reasonably experienced players to form the core of the team - and, most importantly, one or two people who will take on the organising," Shaw added.
"Cricket for girls under 17 is now thriving in Worcester-shire, but we need also to be able to offer the game to women and older girls."
