JEREMY Robinson finally got his putting technique together as he claimed a share of 27th place at last weekend's Algarve Open.

The 35-year-old Evesham player picked up around £5,500 for his four days' work and left him in good spirits ahead of this week's French Open on a new course in Lyon.

"I putted a lot better but still managed to miss a couple on the back nine on Sunday," Robinson recalled. "They weren't the greatest of greens and I was disappointed not to finish at least two shots better."

Robinson failed to get pars on six of his nine opening holes last Thursday, when a double bogey six on his ninth left him one-under at the turn. Seven straight pars earned him an opening round of 71 and birdies at two and nine left him well placed to make a welcome cut after 27 holes.

A dropped shot at the tenth was grabbed back three holes later as the wind got up and successive birdies at 15 and 16 ensured a round of 68 - a Friday score bettered by only two players as Robinson moved into the top ten.

Three birdies and an equal number of bogeys saw him drop down the standings on Saturday but only a trio of holes in which he failed to get pars the next day saw him card a second round of 71 and a six-under-total of 282 - nine shots adrift of winner Philip Price, who shot a final day 64.
