BOATERS messing about on the river this Bank Holiday weekend are being warned to stay away from farmland.
Worcestershire county councillor Adrian Hardman is urging holidaymakers not to moor next to or walk on agricultural land adjoining rivers in Bredon, near Pershore.
"It's been two weeks since our last case of foot-and-mouth in the Bredon area," he said.
"I welcome the boating community to use the river but would urge them to obey the Lower Avon Navigation Trust guidelines which are not to land or walk on farmland which joins the river.
"We've had foot-and-mouth on both sides of the river and despite the fact that we've not had a case for a fortnight, we don't want to take the risk of spreading the disease up river. I ask people not to launch boats from Fleet Lane, in Bredon, since they would be within 20 yards of livestock."
