I WAS amazed to read Brian Hunt's claim that he always had proof when quoting facts (You Say, April 28).
Perhaps he would quote us the "facts" that back up his allegation that under Labour this country will be left with the highest debt to GDP ratio in our history (You Say, April 25).
The actual position is that in the financial year 1996/97,the last year of the Tory administration, the debt to GDP ratio was 44 per cent. In each of the following financial years, it fell reaching 32 per cent in 2000/01.
This financial year it is expected to fall to 30 per cent and remain at about this level for the next few years.
