WORCESTERSHIRE businessmen Richard and George Latham are hoping to take the in-car accessory market by storm with an innovative new product designed to make life easier for the travelling businessman.
After experiencing difficulties working while out on the road on business, the father and son team from Chaddesley Corbett have spent two years designing the new In Car WorkStation for people who have to work from their car.
The unique design was recently registered with the Patent Office and is now ready to go on the market.
Richard and George also set up CarDesk Limited at RPL Autostore, in Worcester Road, Kidderminster, where they will be selling the product.
"It was very tough getting to this stage but, now that we have, we're delighted," said Richard Latham.
"We've been working nights and weekends to get the product right and it has been difficult. We had one or two good suppliers who helped us through but, at the end of the day, there's only one person who can do it, that's yourself."
The In Car WorkStation is a strong worktable designed to take a laptop computer or large notepad, with a separate section for smaller items such as mobile phones, pens and a handy drinks recess.
It is held securely in place by a fully-adjustable frame that fits to the passenger seat and takes only seconds to install and remove.
When not in use, the devise has an in-built locking mechanism to ensure it is safely stowed while the vehicle is in motion.
The idea came to Richard as he sat in his car outside a London service station trying to do some work from his car.
"I had come from a meeting and saw three or four people struggling, like me, to work in their car.
"I thought there was a requirement for a product like this, and my father and I began designing it.
"When you look at it, it's very simple. We feel it's more a business product than a consumer product. We hope that it also has a health and safety aspect to it, because people won't have to twist around in their seats."
The In Car WorkStation fits all vehicles. For more information, Richard is at CarDesk Limited on 01562 515600.
