THE mother of a young girl subjected to an horrific paedophile assault has branded her attacker's jail term as "pathetic".
Rapist Shaun Hayes - who filmed his barbaric crime - was jailed for six years at Worcester Crown Court yesterday.
Hayes admitted raping the girl and also forced her to perform oral sex.
Judge Frank Chapman, who watched the horror video in private, labelled Hayes a paedophile and said he had a deviant interest in young girls.
He ordered the 35-year-old to register as a sex offender for life and extended his prison licence after his release to four years.
But the girl's mother said she had come away "gutted and angry" after watching the court proceedings.
"No sentence would be enough," she said. "But to give someone a six-year sentence after he's wrecked people's lives is a joke. He won't serve more than three-and-a-half - it's so unreasonable."
The woman described Hayes as a cunning liar who would prey on youngsters again.
"My daughter is aware of what went on, but she's too young to understand the emotional effects yet," she added, describing the victim as "coping" with trauma.
"She's been waiting for about four months for counselling from social services.
"However, the police have been brilliant and very supportive."
Hayes, of Claverton Estate, Stoulton, near Worcester, admitted rape, indecent assault, indecency with a child and taking indecent photographs.
Nicolas Cartwright, prosecuting, said it was the crown's case the film showed him raping the child. Hayes was a man of "kinky sexual tastes".
Mr Cartwright said Hayes invited the victim to "play" and showed her indecent pictures. He had videoed himself with the child on more than one occasion.
Police found the video when they raided Hayes' home last November.
Hayes played down the film, telling officers he was "doing things he shouldn't" but lied that there had been no full sex.
A doctor examined the victim and found she had suffered chronic abuse.
Adrian Keeling, defending, said a psychological report showed Hayes was a high risk to other children if he did not receive treatment.
He said the video was for Hayes' personal use.
Hayes had lost his home and job. His elderly mother had suffered a stroke and it was unlikely he would ever see her again.
