BROMSGROVE under-13s completed their season with some worthy performances in the Worcester Tournament at the weekend.
The lads won their group to claim a semi-final place which they lost by just one point in a good contest of skill.
Their results are as follows:
Bromsgrove 22 Lichfield 7. Lichfield opened the scoring with a converted try following a kick and chase from their own half. This encouraged greater effort by Bromsgrove and they gradually took control of the game. David Hughes claimed three tries and one conversion with Thomas Winterbottom claiming the fourth try.
Bromsgrove 12 Hinckley 0. Matthew Hopkinson opened the scoring demonstrating his blistering pace. This was followed with a well worked try in the second half which put Andres Strong in the clear to seal the game Hughes converted.
Bromsgrove 12 Worcester 5. In yet another hard fought match between these two local rivals on this occasion it was Bromsgrove's turn to take the honours. David Hughes claimed the two tries and converted one. The team performance was excellent with Richard Lee Tim Wright and Matthew Wood giving sound performances. Worcester claimed a try just before the final whistle.
Bromsgrove 7 Matson 8. Matson started strongly and were rewarded with a try following a kick and chase. They continued to press and converted a penalty just before half time, giving them an 8-0 lead.
Bromsgrove pressed for most of the second half and Hughes claimed another try which he converted following good work from Wright and Winterbottom. This, alas, was not enough and Matson held out to claim a place in the final.
It was a superb tournament to be held at the end of the season, with Worcester clearly having a policy of inviting quality teams to play each other.
Pontypool defeated Worcester in the other sem-final and then beat Matson to win the tournament.
