AN operation to stamp out problems caused by gangs of youths gathering around Winyates has been launched by police.
The move comes after the Redditch Advertiser reported the opening of a new police station in the centre had instantly helped curb a problem with youths congregating there.
During the first weekend the station was open, police said the centre had been exceptionally quiet and there had been no problems.
But now police believe the youths have moved out from the centre because of the station and are gathering elsewhere on the estate.
Plans to increase police patrols in an attempt to stamp out problems associated with the youths, including under-age drinking and vandalism, have been mooted.
Beat manager for the north east sector, Pc Stan Baker, said: "We have noticed there have been a number of incidents where youths are gathering around the sector.
"We are hoping to put more patrols in the hot spots where these youths are congregating."
He added: "If any residents have any problems with youngsters they can contact me on 584888."
