HEADLESS Cross Ladies drew 1-1 with league leaders West Bromwich Albion on Friday in what turned out to be a very exciting game.
West Brom needed just four points from their final four games to seal the title but it was Cross who edged the first half with the midfield of Alison Hill, Gail Wright, Alison Johnson and Melanie Potter running the game, restricting West Brom to few opportunities.
Eve Adams in the Cross goal didn't have a lot to do but WBA did strike the crossbar with a long range effort.
Up front the strikers ran their legs off and Cross took a deserved lead after great determination by Alison Johnson who won three tackles before finding Beth Jarrett on the right edge of the box who fired home into the far corner to give the keeper no chance.
The second half saw West Brom come more into the game but they still couldn't break Cross down and Jarrett nearly sealed victory only to see her shot rebound off the post.
In the last 20 minutes WBA threw everything at Cross but only levelled with the last kick of the game.
Player of the match was Beth Jarrett.
n Goals from Hayley Wootton and player of the match Alison Johnson failed to stop Cross slumping to a 3-2 defeat by Southam, Cross only able to field 10 players due to injuries.
Cross round-off their season with two games in four days.
They play host to Bromsgrove Rovers at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday (7pm) and then meet Chelmsley Town at the Old Forge ground, Icknield Street Drive, on Sunday (2pm).
