IT is a pity that Ashley Turner did not take the trouble to read the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) guidelines, called Race for Election, before he made his unfounded attack on Julie Kirkbride in the Advertiser/-Messenger.

The guidelines, signed by all major party leaders, do no more than outline the 1976 Race Relations Act, which was supported by all parties.

What is appalling is that the CRE and its Labour Party masters have seen fit to use this document to stir up racial prejudice.

Racial intolerance knows no political boundaries, nor is it confined to the majority white population. The Labour Party knows it will win votes from racists at the General Election, presumably that is why it has arranged for the most xenophobic of tabloids as its main mouthpiece.

Julie Kirkbride and her supporters will not break the law to gain squalid political advantage in the coming election.
