THE first shop has opened on the corporation's brand new estate, Church Hill.
The 2,200 square feet floor space temporary shop has been opened by Martins the Newsagents.
Besides a general food store, the shop in Cleeve Close provides a stationery and newsagent section and it is hoped that the post office will open a counter service in the area set aside for them.
Until now Church Hill residents have had to walk over a mile to the nearest shops in Winyates, Beoley village or the town centre.
A temporary meeting room will also be erected on land adjacent to the shop where residents' meetings can be held.
This will be supervised by the development corporation's social development officer for Church Hill, Mr Colin Kershaw.
