A YOUNG cross-country runner from Rubery has won an award in memory of a school hockey and football star who died of meningitis.
Each year Waseley Hills High School, in School Road, presents a cup in memory of Nicola Hurlbutt to a pupil who has excelled in sport.
Nicola, who played hockey and football for the school, died two years ago from meningitis.
Donations from students paid for the cup which bears her name.
This year James Nickless was chosen by staff for the cup for his sporting achievements which include cross-country running at national level.
