AN animal sanctuary in Bromsgrove is appealing for help with its mounting debts of £20,000 and a £1,000-a-week bill for feed because of foot and mouth disease restrictions.
The Farm Animal Sanctuary, in Broad Green, which rescues sick and injured animals, has not been able to move its 100 sheep, goats, pot-bellied pigs and geese since the foot and mouth crisis hit in March.
As a result, the Stoney Lane-based charity is unable to carry out its usual fundraising events at places like Arrow Valley Park and the Lickey Hills, where the animals appear at stalls to meet the public.
The price of feeding the animals has also sharply risen since they cannot be moved to grazing land and the scarcity of hay has sent costs soaring.
Sanctuary manager Maureen Lawless said they had been given no indication of how long restrictions might remain in place, but they hoped to keep going until the crisis was over.
Anyone who can help with donations or animal feed can call the sanctuary on (01527) 870613.
