PLANNERS went against their own policies and refused permission for a controversial phone mast to be installed at Bromsgrove Rovers Football Club.
Phone company Orange PCs Ltd applied to Bromsgrove District Council for permission to erect the 60ft-tall mast at the Victoria Ground, in Birmingham Road.
Two years ago the authority's environmental health department decided that phone masts could be erected in the district.
At Monday's meeting officers explained the scheme was judged on its own merit and committee members agreed to scrap the scheme.
In April, the Advertiser/Messenger reported nearby residents were up in arms over the plans amid fears of dangers from radiation, plummeting house prices and an unacceptable "blot on the landscape".
The council received 40 letters of objection to the project.
