TWO Mediterranean tortoises worth £400 each have been stolen from the West Midland Safari Park.
The banana-coloured spur-thighed creatures, with a shell about five inches in diameter, were taken from the Bewdley park at 5pm on Saturday.
Head warden Bob Lawrence said the tortoises' lives were in danger unless they were kept in the correct environment.
He said: "They need a warm and controlled environment which is what they had at the park. If they do not get this and are let loose in somebody's garden, they are in severe danger of dying."
Anyone with information about the theft of the tortoises, which are microchipped and were taken from a glass fronted cage in the reptile house, should call Kidderminster Police on 01562 820888.
