WORCESTERSHIRE Cricket Board suffered the heartbreak of sudden-death defeat in their Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy second round tie with Cumberland at Kidderminster.
Heavy rain washed out play in early afternoon, which led to a bowl-out, with five bowlers from each side bowling two deliveries at an unguarded set of stumps.
The score was 2-2 at the end of the bowl-out with Mark Hodgkiss hitting twice for the County side, setting up a sudden-death finale. Hodgkiss missed with his first delivery, but Marcus Sharp made no mistake for Cumberland to earn them a home third round tie with Kent.
It was all the more frustrating for the County as they were well on top when the rain came. Cumberland had struggled to 111-6 in 38.4 overs, with former Worcestershire all-rounder Steve O'Shaughnessy unbeaten on 25. Claude Henderson and Jonathan Wright took two wickets apiece.
