OPENING batsman Ian Jakeways enjoyed a dream debut for Old Elizabethans seconds to win the Evening News/Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd Cricketer of the Week award.
The 35-year-old struck two sixes and 12 fours in a match-winning 111no to help his new side defeat Bromyard by eight wickets in the Worcestershire County League Division One.
"It was a patient, grafting type innings because it was my first game of the season," he said.
Ian, who lives in Worcester and is manager of St John's Sports Centre, spent 22 years with Pershore but decided to move to improve his golf handicap.
"I have come to OEs so I can concentrate on my golf at Perdiswell on a Saturday morning and then nip round to play cricket," he said.
The right-handed opener's sterling efforts have won him a £30 voucher to be spent at Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd in Sherriff Street, Worcester.
