100 years ago - May 18, 1901
Bengeworth: Joseph Lampitt, a labourer from Bengeworth, was summoned to Pershore Petty Sessions for riding his bicycle without a light through Hill and Moor village after the proper time to light up on May 5. PC Johnson said that defendant was riding with a companion, who had a light, when he stopped him. He was fined 7s and 8s costs.
75 years ago - May 22, 1926
Evesham: Charles Merritt, a carter, of Windsor Road, Evesham, was charged with being drunk in charge of three horses and a timber wagon at Church House, Honeybourne, on May 4. Defendant pleaded guilty and said he had been drinking something out of a bottle, either cider or wine, but he was not in the habit of doing so. He was fined £1 and given a month to pay.
50 years ago - May 19, 1951
Evesham: A girl cyclist - Sheila Mary Llewellyn of Belle View Road, Cinderford, Gloucestershire, received slight head injuries when she was involved in a collision with a motor car at the junction of Cambria Road and Greenhill, Evesham, early on Tuesday afternoon. She was detained in Evesham Hospital. The driver of the car was Walter George Hale, of Windsor Road, Evesham.
25 years ago - May 20, 1976
Evesham: Town councillors want the speed limit lowered on the Worcester Road from 40mph to 30mph before St Egwin's Middle School opens in September. The town clerk, Mr S Coldicott, has written to the highway authority asking them to consider cutting the limit. An official of the Hereford and Worcester education department said that many children would have to cross the busy road and the speed limit would be looked at.
