BEWDLEY is to host the country's first flood defence trade fair next month as residents seek individual solutions to the problem which has blighted the town.
All companies marketing methods of keeping floodwater out of individual properties are being invited to attend the event on Saturday, June 30.
The fair, supported by the Environment Agency and Wyre Forest District Council, is also set to attract people from other towns across the Midlands which have suffered from flooding chaos.
The town's flood committee chairman Peter Barnett said: "The devastation of floods in 2000 was such that many residents are still unable to return to their homes six months after the event.
"The financial and emotional impact of this state of affairs cannot be overemphasised and cannot be allowed to happen again, particularly when the long-term solution for at least part of the town is so near."
Mr Barnett added the committee was still seeking financial aid for from the Government for residents and businesses affected by the floods.
He was happy with the Environment Agency's "professional" approach to the barrier project following last Thursday's presentation.
"The consensus from the attendees of the meeting is that they are happy with the proposals and keen to see rapid progress, despite the serious upheaval the town will face once the works begin," he added.
