WILLERSEY FOOTLIGHTS: Yet another successful Footlights Show was presented on three nights in the village hall and on each night to capacity audiences. This year's show was 'The Best of Footlights (or the least worse of') and repeated some of the sketches and items from the previous 10 shows. This show was dedicated to Ian Lamb who died last year and who had been a valuable member of the stage production team; the proceeds from the show which may be in the region of £700 will be donated to the Cheltenham Hospitals FOCUS on Cancer Fund. The items were wide-ranging and included such as The Andrews Sisters, the German Ump Pa-Pa dancing, Tom Jones, Robin Hood, Romeo and Juliet, Barry and Freda, 'What the Butler Saw', Dancing Cheek to Cheek, Seven Little Girls, Glen Miller, Barbershop, Scottish Dancing, 'Hello-Hello', Bonsai experts, the Toilet Sketch and the Three Tenors. The production team were: Phil Simpson, Phil Bennett, Neville Jelfs, Paul Clark, Cathy Watts, David Griffiths, Cynthia Green, Mandy Bennett, Maurice Andrews, Val Roberts and her team, Ruby Hancock, Frances Fairclough, Steve and Di Ford, Sue and Claire Bennett, Dean Pockett and Tom Jelfs. The cast members were: Jennie Bond, Greg Burrows, Sue Clark, Rachel Clark, Steve Ford, Jane Gooding, Nick Goodman, Noel Hughes, Mal Jelfs, Neville Jelfs, Steve Jordan, Adine Keatley, Phil Keatley, Annie Payne, Bill Payne, Mildred Powell, Phil Simpson and Tricia Simpson. The society would like to thank all those who helped in any way, those who provided over 40 prizes for the raffle for the three nights, and the 300 ticket-holders who again supported the show. Some members of the society have said they have taken their final bow - we wonder! - after such a great success this really cannot be the last show, the Footlights will continue and new members will be most welcome either to perform or to enjoy being a supporter.
WEDNESDAY CLUB: For the first of the two April meetings members enjoyed a most interesting talk by Mrs Rosemary Morris who gave an amusing and informative account of her trips to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. With some of the most beautiful slides she helped all to experience some wonderful sights of the country and its wild-life. Mrs Morris was thanked by the chairman, Miss Helen Rhoden. A change of programme was necessary for last week's meeting and members enjoyed a session of carpet bowls - many are still learners but all those who either watched or attempted to keep the bowls on the carpet thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. At the next meeting the speaker will be Mrs Joyce Davey on 'A Trek with a Purpose in Nepal'.
