A TRAIN hit a metal road sign on the track between Great Malvern and Malvern Link last Saturday (May 12).
The 5.38am Thames train to Paddington was approaching the Link station when passengers heard the crunch of metal beneath the wheels.
At the station, the metal sign was found lodged underneath a carriage. Six passengers were on board.
"I heard the sound of crunching metal and immediately knew we had hit something," said passenger Jim Collins, who had been travelling to work in Worcester.
"I could hear something being dragged along the track beneath me.
"When we stopped at Malvern Link the driver got out and had a look. When we started again the scraping had stopped.
"Thankfully, there was very few people on the train at the time or the incident could have been much more serious. In the light of all the recent rail tragedies, it's very concerning."
A Thames spokesman said the train had been inspected at Malvern Link by the driver, who found minor skirt damage.
An engineer carried out a further inspection at Oxford.
