I WOULD like to respond to criticisms from the environmental group, Friends of the Earth, over the Conservatives' pledge to cut fuel tax.
Many people, particularly those living in rural locations in my area, find a car essential. A hike in petrol prices hits people hard in their pockets but does not force them off the road.
The majority of pollution is caused by old cars, not new vehicles. New
technology and not higher taxation is the way forward.
We also want people to make greener choices in fuel and that is why we will also reduce tax on cleaner fuels like Liquid Petroleum Gas and Biodiesel I support the Conservatives fuel cut initiative.
STEPHEN CLEE, Bewdley.
