RAIL excursions were quite the thing 50 years ago, judging by an advert in the Gazette.
British Railways were running trains from Malvern to the Epsom Derby, to other race meetings at Warwick and Wolverhampton, and to the Festival of Britain. Trips to the Peak District and to the valleys of south Wales were also being advertised.
