THE Malvern Sprint Triathlon, promoted by Worcester Triathlon Club, centred on the grounds of Malvern College on Sunday.
A field ranging from 15 years to over 70 gathered outside the pool before setting off at intervals along a course including 400 metres of swimming, 25k of cycling and finishing with a 5k run.
This popular event in the triathlon calendar now attracts elite class performers but for some this was a personal challenge.
Alec Bond, a year ten student at The Chase School showed that he is going to be a real force in years to come, finishing in 1:29:03. An outstanding performance came from local student Ros Bray, whose first attempt at a triathlon saw her home in 1:25:55.
At the top of the field some very serious competition saw teacher Chris Elias (Tewkes-bury Tri Club) emerge as the winner in 1:05:21. Second overall was Mike Lyons (Multisports Racing) in 1:06:27 with third overall and first Junior going to local Leigh athlete and The Chase student Jonathan Stedman (Worcester Tri Club) in 1:06:57.
