MATHON Cradley & Storridge Tennis Club (MCS) Mixed A team welcomed back team captain Janet Brown on Sunday and earned a winning draw against visiting Ombersley TC.
Carol Dandy & Duncan Hannaford lost the opening rubber 3-6, 3-6, however Carol & Duncan responded positively n their second rubber and after a competitive first set which they won 7-5, Carol & Duncan comfortably won the second set producing several winning volleys to secure a 7-5, 6-1 victory.
The MCS pair of Janet Brown & Phillip Toghill started strongly and won their first rubber 7-5, 6-4. In the final rubber Janet & Phillip were now playing some excellent tennis to win the first set 6-4. The match, which had started in bright sunshine, was now being played in heavy rain which seemed to inspire the Ombersley pair who fought back bravely to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Although the match finished at two rubbers per side, MCS gained the winning draw by five sets to four.
The next MCS Mixed A match is on June 9 when they play local rivals Manor Park at Harcourt Road, Mathon at 10am.
