AFTER lying low for several years, quietly and stealthily consolidating its position, that government quango Advantage West Midlands suddenly feels confident enough to rear its head and give us an advertorial. In other words another bit of government "spin"!
It's chief executive, John Edwards, tells us that AWM's aim is to make the region one of the best in Europe within 10 years.
I would say to John Edwards that the "region" is not a constitutional part of the UK, nor ever will be if the majority of people have their wish.
It is nothing more than a geographical area. Our country is still, and always will be a United Kingdom. He also tells us that AWM has been involved in projects that involved £74m worth of investment.
I would ask why? I am sure that all of the projects would have been completed without any involvement from AWM.
How much has AWM and all the other quangos across the country cost us? Many, many millions of pounds that could have been spent on, more nurses, more policemen and other areas instead of being wasted on political manoeuvring.
Every single one of the Government's quangos should be abolished.
E F SHOWELL,
Worcester.
