A WORKMAN-LIKE performance from Worcestershire Saints assured them of their
second rugby league victory of the season, 28-12, over Bedford Swifts.
Saints took an early lead when Richard Whitehouse scored with a penalty after six minutes.
Full back Whitehouse then followed up with his first try of the season seven minutes later scoring in the corner from a pass by Brett Toole.
The conversion was missed but Worcester went further ahead when Bedford were
penalised five metres from their try line and Francois Helmer scored. Whitehouse was again unlucky with the conversion.
Worcester went further ahead in the 24th minute when Whitehouse scored a second try brushing aside several tackles and
scoring under the post.
His conversion was successful and Worcester looked to be in total control leading 16-0 with only 15 minute of the half remaining.
A superb converted try from Tommy McCollin seven minutes from the whistle
brought Bedford back into the game and Worcester were caught sleeping when
Chris Baker scored a second converted try for Bedford with the last move of the half.
Playing down the slope in the second-half, Worcester pinnedback in their own half until the 26th minute when they took control of the game with two converted tries in a six-minute spell.
The first from Francois Helmer and a second four minutes later when Badham ran 70 metres to score.
Bedford's chances of coming back into the game were further hampered by the dismissal of Ritchie Bower who was sent off for the use of the elbow in a tackle.
