HINDLIP won the annual SSAB Swedish Steel/Regal Garage schools tag rugby tournament when they beat St Joseph's in the final.
Thirteen teams from across the Wychavon district met at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground in what proved to be an outstanding day of quality rugby.
This was the second year that Droitwich have been host to 'tag' rugby and this years event was run in partnership with Wychavon District Council following a season of in-school coaching across the entire 29 primary schools within the area.
The event was sponsored by SSAB Swedish steel and Regal Garage of Bromsgrove which enabled every child to receive medals and certificates along with a hot meal and drink at the end of the day.
With the constant need for new equipment in lower age schools prizes of tags were awarded to the top three schools to the value of £225.
Teams were entered from Broadway, Upton Snodsbury, Pebworth, Hindlip, St Josephs, Chawson, Westlands, Cherry Orchard, Harvington, Pershore, Cutnall Green.
After heated competition the semi-finals saw Hindlip beat Broadway and St Josephs overcoming Westlands. Hindlip narrowly beat St Joesephs to take the overall, while Broadway took third place after a play-off with Westlands.
A Spotmanship team award went to Westlands, while the 'Most Valuable Player' of the event award went to Laura Bradley of Harvington.
Steve Brewster, WDC sports development officer said: "It is extremely rewarding to see the culmination of effort from both Droitwich RFC and the sports development office end in a superb display of rugby. I look forward to next years event which looks to be getting bigger and better each year".
Anyone interested in finding out more about tag or contact rugby can contact the club on 01905-771919. Droitwich will be running a skills course over the summer period.
