SCORES of concerned Bordesley residents have objected to Redditch Council over an application to vary the public entertainment licence at Abbey Hotel and Golf and Country Club.
Residents are calling for the application to be refused or the decision, which is due to be made at a licensing sub-committee meeting today, to be deferred until they have experienced one summer operating under the present licence.
Their chief concerns include potential late-night noise from the venue, particularly in summer with windows open.
The restaurant, Westminster Bar and conference room at the Dagnell End Road club have been licensed for public entertainment from 7.30-11pm Sunday to Thursday and 7.30pm-1am Friday and Saturday since 1992.
The application is for the licence to include a new restaurant, conference suite and Warwick Bar - part of a £4 million facelift - which will operate from 7.30pm-midnight on Sunday, 7.30pm-12.30am Monday to Wednesday and 7.30pm-1am Thursday to Saturday.
Resident John Longley, of Hither Green Lane, said: "An entertainment licence going past midnight six days a week and to midnight on the one remaining night could be a cause of considerable noise pollution."
A council spokesman said if the application was granted it would recommend the licence be issued for just six months, with conditions that all windows and doors should be closed during entertainment and an authorised person should deal with noise queries on site.
