A LABOUR councillor has called for free car parking in the Spa.
Droitwich Spa town councillor Frank Payne (Lab, Droit.West) wants car parking charges axed because he believes a free service would attract more shoppers.
At last Monday night's planning committee meeting, he suggested the council should try to find a way to get shops to reimburse the cost of parking. One hour costs 20p.
Cllr Don Lawley (Con, Droit.South) said: "There is no such thing as free car parking.
"I think the cost of parking in this town is very cheap, especially when compared to neighbouring areas.
"We tried to get a card going in the town and asked retailers to redeem charges for customers, but not enough people took it up."
