A DRAMATIC six off the last ball by Richard Belk gave University College Worcester a thrilling one-wicket victory over a Worcestershire Develop-ment XI at New Road yesterday.
Set 200 to win in a 45-over match, the University looked out of it at 133-7 with 10 overs left.
But the efforts of skipper Giles Puckle (38), Wesley Durston (30) and Belk (29no) pushed them back into contention, although 14 runs were still needed off the last over, bowled by Depesh Patel.
The ninth wicket fell off the first ball but eight runs came off the next four deliveries, leaving six needed off the last. Belk went for a big hit and sliced it over backward point to clear the boundary and delight a large crowd of students.
The County side, containing nine players on the New Road staff, made 199-6 with Phil Weston hitting 59, Kadeer Ali 56 and Nick Boulton 37no. Weston and Kadeer put on 110 for the second wicket.
