GREENHILL Fishery at Hallow near Worcester was the scene for the Starlets Veterans Tuesday contest which was held on the Curlew and Kingfisher Pools.
Jim Gould (Lyttleton) took top spot by short pole fishing maggots up in the water at Kingfisher peg 30 for a mixed catch of 28-1-0. Second Phil Hill (Redditch) 27-5-0, third Bill Drew (Bewdley) 26-10-0.
At Moorlands Farm the Silverfish Pool open was won by John Merchant (Birmingham Airport) with a pole and caster mixed catch of 44-3-0 from peg two. Second Alan Bartlam (Barford) 39-5-0, third Chris Haile (Barford) 38-7-0.
Wednesday's Meadow Pool open was topped by Sean Jones (Fosters Tipton) with a pole and corn catch of 84-0-0 from peg 44. Second Colin Daley (Team Strike) 74-4-4, third Neil Perry (Fosters Tipton) 73-4-0.
Barry Jones (Weoley Castle) made it two Wednesday wins on the trot at Astwood Fisheries Bluebell Pool open by waggler fishing corn and meat at peg 15 for 28-6-0. Second Ron Fowler (Weoley Castle) 23-7-0, third Gary Kirkham (Astwood) 23-2-0.
At Woodlands View the Arles Pool open was won by Paul Downes (MAP Starlets) by pole fishing worms up in the water at peg four for 119-0-0. His team mate Rob Brennan followed with 76-0-4, third John Knight (Willow Creek) 67-0-0.
On Thursday Telfish AC fished its Spring Cup event at Caunsall on the Staffs-Worcs Canal, where West Bromwich top rod Keith Butler took a top catch 3-4-12 of roach taken with pole fished casters and hemp. Second Graham Upton 2-14-8, third Pete May 2-10-8.
The Starlets Veterans were at Willow Marsh near Mustow Green and there were joint winners, Mick Taylor (Northfield) and Brian Hill (Stourport) both fishing same style, corn over caster on a short pole for 10-14-0 apiece, mainly tench. Third was Phil Hill (Redditch) 8-5-0.
Moorlands Farm's Special Costcutter open was held on the Meadow Pool with John Jones (Strike AC) in first place with 72-12-0 taken with pole and corn from the margins of peg 27. Second Bob Jones (Moorlands) 61-3-0, third Paul Rowberry (Severn Trent) 59-2-0.
Friday's Costcutter open was a one-sided affair for Colin Pace (Bilston) who pole fished corn in the margins of Bank Pool peg 25 for a 112-5-0 carp haul. Runner up Giles Cochrane (Wales) had 72-10-0, third Bob Jones (Moorlands) 67-14-0.
At Woodlands View the afternoon open was fished on Arles and Deans Pool with Bewdley matchman Paul Evans (Storey's) taking a close verdict with a pole and caster catch of 55-13-0 from Arles peg 40. Second John Knight (Willow Creek) 52-11-0, third Dave Hague (Woodlands) 49-10-0.
On Saturday round five of the Preston Innovations Spring League was fished at Woodlands View and it was Mick Dagnall (GTI Midland Match Blue) who took the top individual honours by pole fishing corn in the margins of Arles peg 22 for 92-7-0. Daz Shaw (Preston Innovations) was second with 83-1-0 from Deans peg 64, third Steve Clarke (Daiwa Trentmen) 77-8-0. Slapheads topped the day's points list with 68, Preston Innovations 60, Starlets Blue 56. Overall Slapheads lead with 288, Shakespeare 270, Preston Innovations 266.
The fifth and final round of the Lower Broadheath Spring League saw some very good catches recorded with Droitwich matchman Rob Francis (Ovation Leisure Blue) taking the top individual honours by pole fishing chopped worms in the margins of Sycamore Pool peg 20 for 91-8-0. Worcester's Richard Brewer (Greenman) was second with 88-5-0 from Old Pool peg 15 and Paul Hodgetts (Matchbox) took third place with 76-9-0 from Willow peg seven.
Top team on the day were Ovation Leisure Red with 18 points, Castle 19, Greenman and Drum Diamond both 21. Overall Redditch based Leeda took the title with a four man total of 104 just pipping Ovation Leisure Blue on 105 and Ovation Leisure Red in third spot with 110.
On Sunday Astwood Fisheries Smokey Joe's Pool open was won by Ian Sutherland (Land Rover) with a waggler and caster catch of 21-2-0 of small carp from peg 27. Yours truly Tony Brunn (Ovation Leisure) was second with 19-5-0, third Clive Duggan (Ovation Leisure) 61-1-0.
At Woodlands View, the Deans and High Pools open saw the top three come off Deans with Ian Didcott (Essex County VDE) leading the field with 74-0-0 from peg 40 with pole fished worms up in the water. Second placed Kieran Wardel (MAP Starlets) had 72-15-0, third Alan Jones (DGL) 56-9-0.
Initial AC fished its event at Silligrove Fishery in the Wyre Forest with Birmingham angler John Foyle showing the way from peg seven with a pole and meat catch of 25-1-4. Close on his heels was John Hunt with 25-1-0, third John Grace 12-1-4.
Top catch of the week on the Trout Pool came from Kingswinford's Joe Woodhouse with 16 Rainbows up to six pounds taken on a buzzer fly on Friday. Saturday saw Wolverhampton's Adrian Howells take eight fish to dry fly up to eight pounds.
