COULD somebody please explain? If it is an offence in this country to take wildflowers from their natural surroundings, then why is the mowing of roadside verges permitted?
In certain situations, for reasons of road safety, this practice is obviously fully justified, but on quiet country lanes, the scything down of this naturally beautiful display is nothing short of criminal.
With our fields and verges only just recovering from years of pesticide abuse, surely now is the time to let them flourish again.
