DAVID Andrews says "if the joining of 250 million people can make the United States the most powerful country in the world, what will the joining of 300 million people signed up for the euro do for Europe?"

The answer Mr Andrews is nothing. Under the Constitution of the United States of America the "inalienable rights" of the people are defined.

So-called rights, under the European constitution, are subject to the whim of the politicians and can be revoked.

I quote from Kate Hillard's letter (You Say, May 8). "The European Court of Justice ruled, in March this year, that it can lawfully suppress political criticism of its (Europe's) institutions and leading figures, sweeping aside our Common Law and 50 years of European precedents on civil liberties."

That's your European free speech, Mr Andrews.

Successive governments in our nation have no mandate from we, the people, to transfer executive authority to the European institutions and 52 per cent of us want out of Europe.

That the mainstream political parties do not reflect that will of the people demonstrates how far "democracy" has been corrupted by the professional politicians, who now owe more allegiance to their party than we the people.
